Grassi Welcomes Timothy (TJ) Beary as Leader of SALT and Tax Controversy Practices

New York-based IPA 100 firm Grassi (FY23 net revenue of $132.6 million) has announced the addition of TJ Beary as partner and leader of its State and Local Tax (SALT) and Tax Controversy practices. Based out of Grassi’s Boston area offices and servicing clients nationally, Beary brings 20 years of expertise in state and local tax matters.

Beary is known for building high-performing teams and delivering client-focused solutions in complex tax environments. He specializes in compliance, reporting, strategic advisory, tax technology, risk mitigation and controversy resolution, including nexus studies and multistate tax solutions.

Building on the momentum of Grassi’s integration of Anstiss & Co. earlier this year, Beary’s arrival further expands the firm’s presence in Massachusetts and enhances its specialty tax service offerings, including state and local tax planning, controversy resolution, and multistate compliance.

Before joining Grassi, Beary served as a partner at Baker Tilly, providing specialty tax and SALT services across multiple industries. His extensive background includes roles at two Big Four firms, where he managed multistate tax compliance, reporting and advisory services, conducted nexus studies and oversaw tax due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
