Forbes has released its inaugural America’s Top 200 CPAs list, the first list to acknowledge practicing CPAs providing accounting services in the public interest.
Forbes notes that the list is culled from more than 1,000 CPAs sourced through independent nominations and accolades from every society and association of CPAs. Nominees were rated on a range of weighted criteria, including expertise, innovation, thought leadership, experience and service to the community and to their profession, as well as responses to selected questions.
This list reflects the broad diversity of this $143 billion profession, currently facing challenges such as dwindling numbers, AI and an increasingly turbulent world.
“The most common denominator among each of these list makers was courage,” Forbes’ senior editor Steel Rose wrote. “The courage to maintain the credibility that sets the profession in a class by itself. The courage to work for businesses large and small, without bias, on everything from sustainable energy to cryptocurrency. The courage to navigate a dizzying array of services – representing clients, preparing tax strategies, tax returns, financial plans and valuations, as well as offering management consulting on everything from manufacturing to blockchain and AI.”
The top 5 on the list are:
- Lara Abrash, chair of Deloitte US (FY22 net revenue of $27.9 billion).
- Susan Adams, managing shareholder of Dallas-based HM&M (FY22 net revenue of $18.8 million).
- Vic Alexander, CEO of Nashville, Tenn.-based Kraft CPAs (FY22 net revenue of $33.2 million).
- Roz Allyson, MP at Mahoney CPAs and Advisors of St. Paul, Minn. (FY22 net revenue of $14.1 million).
