In its 75-year history, IPA 200 firm Fairfield, N.J.-based Smolin Lupin & Co. (FY23 net revenue of $26.9 million) has had many women partners, but none has ever served on the firm’s executive committee until now, with Dina DeMarco’s recent appointment.
“Having spent her entire career with Smolin, Dina brings a wealth of internal knowledge and experience to the executive committee,” commented CEO Paul Fried.
DeMarco began her career at Smolin after she graduated from Monmouth University. She chose a career in public accounting because it offered variety, the opportunity to meet different clients and not be in the same office day in and day out. “I chose Smolin based on their reputation,” she said. “The firm was listed as a top accounting firm in New Jersey, and I did not want to work at a big accounting firm.”
After 15 years of increasing responsibility at the firm, DeMarco was named a partner in July 2009. She was the first female partner to rise from the internal ranks of the firm. She began as a partner part-time because as a mother of two young children, it was important to her to balance work and family. When asked about her greatest accomplishment in her career thus far, she stated, “The ability to maintain a successful career and be present for my family.”
