With plans for a newly revamped CPA exam to roll out in 2024, the AICPA has released its updated Uniform CPA Examination Blueprints, which include content eligible for assessment on the exam.
Based on the knowledge and skills required of a newly licensed CPA as gleaned from its joint CPA Evolution initiative with NASBA, the blueprints incorporate three core sections – financial accounting and reporting, auditing and attestation, and taxation and regulation – along one candidate-selected discipline, including business analysis and reporting, information systems and controls, or tax compliance and planning. The goal is to includes an increased focus on data and technology concepts in all core and discipline exam sections
“The CPA exam has evolved to align with a digital-driven marketplace, and that means a greater emphasis on technology and analytical skills,” says Susan Coffey, AICPA’s CEO of public accounting. “Through CPA Evolution, new exam candidates will gain the skills and competencies they need to better meet the public’s, clients’ and employers’ needs. Candidates will also have the flexibility to choose their preferred area of focus within the multitude of career paths available in the profession.”
Under current plans, the last day of testing for all current CPA exam sections is anticipated to be Dec. 15, with the new CPA Evolution-aligned exam launching in January of 2024.
