The governing council of the AICPA has elected Anoop Mehta as the organization’s new chairperson. Mehta, chief strategist of the aerospace firm Analytical Mechanical Associates, a CPA and the AICPA’s vice chair over the past year, succeeds outgoing chairman Bill Pirolli in the volunteer post.
In his acceptance speech at the AICPA spring council session, Mehta outlined three areas of focus for his term:
- Helping others to grow professionally and personally by urging the profession to adopt a people-first approach that encourages mutual support, lifelong learning and personal development.
- Diversifying the pipeline of new accountants by focusing on projects such as CPA Evolution, new apprenticeship opportunities for candidates and progress toward DEI goals to ensure accountability.
- Preserving trust in the profession by building on the profession’s recent role in economic recovery and business relief and extending that trust to new areas such as assurance and advisory work related to ESG.
“The CPA is a foundation to open doors, broaden horizons and build career journeys,” Mehta said. “It was true when I passed the exam in 1991, and it’s just as true now, if not more.”
