New York-based IPA 100 firm KPMG (FY25 net revenue of $15.9 billion) is expanding its AI innovation efforts with a new Client Technology & Innovation group focused on developing new AI-based businesses and technology products for clients.
Todd Lohr will lead the group as vice chair and head of Client Technology & Innovation effective Oct. 1. The group brings together KPMG’s technology partnerships, startup investments, venture capital relationships and other innovation programs under one organization.
KPMG said the group will experiment with and incubate new offerings before determining whether to scale them as standalone businesses, joint ventures or offerings within the firm. Its areas of focus include technology disruption, cybersecurity, business transformation and transactions.
“We’ll be working like a start-up at the edge to move faster without creating risk or sacrificing quality to our core business,” Lohr said.
The group will also expand KPMG’s work with technology companies including Anthropic, Google Cloud, Microsoft, OpenAI and Databricks to co-develop products and client solutions.
KPMG plans to use the initiative as a leadership development program as well, rotating selected employees through the new businesses in founder and leadership roles.
The organizational change follows several years of increased AI investment by KPMG. The firm said the new group will continue overseeing its internal AI transformation, while Steve Chase, vice chair and global head of AI and digital innovation, will retire Sept. 30.
