Private equity-backed accounting platform Ascend has added Charlotte, N.C.-based IPA 200 firm GreerWalker (FY25 net revenue of $46.8 million), expanding Ascend’s presence in the Carolinas.
The deal adds 16 partners and approximately 135 staff to Ascend’s platform. GreerWalker provides accounting and advisory services to clients across the Southeast and nationally.
“What drew us to Ascend was its vision of bringing together high-performing firms without losing the unique culture and relationships that make each one special,” said Jonathan Mangels, CEO of GreerWalker. “GreerWalker has spent decades building trusted client relationships and a people-first culture, and it was important to find a partner that values those same principles.”
Mangels said the combination will allow GreerWalker to invest in its team and expand its capabilities while preserving the firm’s culture and client relationships.
Nishaad Ruparel, president of Ascend, said GreerWalker has built a strong reputation for client service and created “one of the more fulfilling places to work in the profession’s middle market.”
As part of the transaction, GreerWalker has adopted an alternative practice structure. Effective Sept. 1, the firm’s tax and advisory services operate as GreerWalker Advisors, while attest services are provided by GreerWalker Attest.
