Portland, Maine-based IPA 100 firm BerryDunn (FY24 net revenue of $181.1 million) is expanding its outsourced accounting practice group to meet rising demand from nonprofit organizations.
The firm is growing its nonprofit-focused outsourced accounting team as organizations nationwide face staffing shortages and increasing complexity in financial management. The team provides senior-level expertise in back-office support, bookkeeping, CFO and controller services and accounting software consulting.
A key driver of this growth is Dawn Patterson, senior manager, who brings decades of audit and accounting experience serving nonprofit clients. She specializes in GAAP compliance and lease accounting and works closely with organizations to maintain compliance, manage operations and remain audit-ready.
“Today, nonprofits of every size are grappling with staffing shortages and a growing need for higher-level accounting expertise,” said Patterson. “As experienced accounting partners, we believe it’s crucial to understand not just the numbers, but the mission behind them. Our team’s growth is a direct reflection of the trust nonprofits are placing in us to help them succeed.”
The outsourced accounting practice group offers scalable support tailored to client needs, including interim leadership during transitions and long-term strategic engagement. The firm said its approach allows nonprofits to enhance operational efficiency while focusing on their core missions.
“Nonprofits come to us seeking a partner who understands the regulatory environment, can anticipate audit requirements, and truly cares about helping their organization thrive,” said Leah Shanahan, principal in the firm’s outsourced accounting practice group. “Under Dawn’s leadership, we have continued to grow our outsourced accounting team and deepen our relationships with nonprofits across the country.”
