Knoxville, Tenn.-based IPA 100 firm PYA (FY24 net revenue of $74.3 million) has announced that Carol Carden has been named president-elect designate of the American Health Law Association (AHLA).

Carden, managing principal of compensation valuation, planning & design, will help guide the strategic direction of AHLA, the nation’s largest educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field. Her election marks a milestone as she is the first non-attorney nominated to this leadership role in the organization’s history.

Carden currently serves on the AHLA board of directors and previously chaired the Women’s Leadership Council. She is in line to serve as AHLA president in the coming years.

“Advancing today’s health law requires a breadth of diverse expertise and professional viewpoints,” said David McMillan, president of the firm. “Carol’s respected standing in the healthcare valuation and legal communities reflects her decades of rigorous work, her genuine commitment to advancing the profession, and her integrity as a leader. This well-deserved honor for Carol is a source of tremendous pride for her colleagues at PYA.”

Carden leads the firm’s national compensation valuation practice and brings more than 30 years of healthcare consulting experience. She provides valuation, compliance and compensation design services and performs business appraisals related to mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and litigation.

“I am honored to serve as AHLA’s President-Elect Designate,” said Carden. “The broad diversity in the incoming leadership positions allows AHLA to continue to serve as an authority for the health law community. I’m excited to apply my diverse experience to this new role and look forward to working with members to advance AHLA’s important mission.”

“Carol’s deep expertise in health care valuation and her proven leadership make her an exceptional choice for this role,” said Mark S. Kopson, president of AHLA. “Beyond her prolific contributions to health law education through speaking and publishing, Carol exemplifies the spirit of collaborative camaraderie that defines AHLA at its best. I look forward to continuing to work alongside her as we advance our mission and serve as a welcoming professional home for all health law professionals.”
