New York-based IPA 100 firm CohnReznick (FY24 net revenue of $1.15 billion) has announced that Richard (Rich) Sumida has joined the firm as a national assurance partner specializing in financial services.
Based in New Jersey, Sumida is a member of CohnReznick’s national assurance leadership team and will work with engagement teams across the firm to address complex technical and regulatory matters affecting financial services clients.
Sumida brings more than 27 years of experience serving the investment management industry, with expertise spanning hedge funds, private equity and registered investment companies. His background includes fair value measurement, Investment Company Act of 1940 regulations, custody rule compliance, accounting for crypto assets, professional standards and complex investment structures. He is also recognized for authoring interpretive guidance, leading technical research and collaborating on solutions to industry implementation issues, including developing firm comment letters on SEC rulemaking proposals relevant to the fund industry.

Prior to joining CohnReznick, Sumida served as a managing director in the national office of a Big 4 firm, where he co-authored an investment company handbook and consulted on complex accounting, audit and regulatory issues. He has also held leadership roles at another major accounting firm, developing best practices and quality control initiatives for financial services clients.
