AICPA and CIMA Launch ESG Fundamentals Certificate

As more and more firms begin to wade into the waters of environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting and assurance, the AICPA and CIMA are launching a new certificate designed to provide foundational knowledge on critical ESG topics.

Targeting CPAs, management accountants and finance professionals, the Fundamentals of ESG Certificate features a 9-hour course covering the fundamental concepts of and latest developments within the ESG field, with a specific focus on the role of the accounting and auditing profession in sustainability and the current sustainability reporting frameworks and reporting requirements. Certificate holders are granted a digital badge to display in their online profiles.

“Business reporting and the underlying concepts of enterprise value are evolving rapidly, and no group is more essential to instilling trust and integrity into that process than accountants,” says Susan Coffey, CEO of public accounting for AICPA and CIMA. “Our obligation as a profession is to make sure we develop the necessary skills and expertise to lead the integration of ESG into the organization and deliver on high-quality reporting and assurance of ESG information.”
