Three Firms Join to Become One in Iowa

Three firms in Iowa and Minnesota, Bergan Paulsen, Networking Solutions and KDV, announced they have merged as of July 1 to become Waterloo, Iowa-based BerganKDV.

The new firm offers business planning and consulting, tax, audit and accounting, payroll and 401(k), technology, and wealth management services primarily in the Midwest.

KDV (Kern, DeWenter, Viere) was established in 1945 and maintains offices in Minneapolis and St. Cloud, Minn. Bergan Paulsen was formed by the 1987 merger of two Waterloo, Iowa, CPA firms: Murley, Bergan & Co. and Smith, Paulsen & Evans. The firm provides tax, assurance, accounting and payroll, technology and advisory services at five Iowa locations.

“From the first time we met the people at Bergan Paulsen and Networking Solutions, we knew they were people we wanted on our team. We truly believe our firms will offer our clients and employees a better future, together,” says Loren Viere, company president.

The firms have been talking for much of the last couple of years and ultimately saw a unified vision for the future. This merger of peers brings together two firms of significant size.

“One of the most exciting aspects of this is the growth we will see – we are growing our team, horsepower, depth and specialization – to name a few things. Our clients will feel the same commitment to excellence they always have, but they will also see us bring more to the table to help them with their challenges and issues,” says CEO Chris Honkomp.

BerganKDV is led largely by the existing partners and leadership teams from each firm, including Honkomp as CEO and Viere as president. They employ around 300 people with seven offices across Iowa and Minnesota.
