Chicago-based McGladrey (FY13 net revenue of $1.37 billion) has agreed to acquire Houston’s Margolis, Phipps & Wright PC.
All 14 of MP&W’s leaders will join McGladrey as partners, and its more than 100 employees will be offered positions at McGladrey. The company’s namesakes, Barry Margolis, Jan Phipps and Tommy Wright, will continue to oversee the Houston office. “Houston is a hub for dynamic, middle market companies, and McGladrey has been looking to enter this market for some time,” said Joe Adams, MP and CEO of McGladrey.
McGladrey also announced that it has acquired Lanier, Whaley, Craft & Co., a Wilmington, N.C., firm, bringing the number of its employees here to 56, the Star News reported.”McGladrey’s strategy,” said Rob Wagner, partner in McGladrey’s Wilmington office, “is to grow our business both organically and through targeted acquisitions like this one that support our objective of having outstanding local teams in the markets where our clients do business supported by strong national and international expertise in our assurance, tax and consulting lines of business and focus industries.” With the addition of Lanier, Whaley, Craft, McGladrey will have more than 130 employees across eastern North Carolina.
